萧永乐指出，大肠是我们消化系统的一部份，主要功能是吸收食物中的水份，并且暂时囤积这些排泄物（被吸干水份的食物），直至它被当成粪便排出体外
萧永乐指出，如果大肠长了息肉，并任由它一直慢慢成长，约7-8年后，已成巨肉的息肉，多半已变成癌症，霸占住在大肠的某一部份。
萧永乐指出，尽管息肉的体积非常幼小，也可在内窥镜检查时寻获，医生会同时使用附着于内窥镜上的仪器直接把息肉给拿掉。
